Gulf of Girolata, the roadless hamlet

A village at the end of the trail

The absence of a road gives Girolata its distinctive pace. Visitors walk between the beach, houses, traces of pastoral life and the fort. A few businesses open in season, while the hamlet becomes very quiet during the rest of the year.

Two ways to arrive

From Porto, boat excursions often combine Girolata with Scandola. On foot, the postman’s trail begins at Col de la Croix and crosses exposed maquis. Check times, duration and conditions before setting out.

What to do there

Walk through the hamlet, view the fort, have lunch in season or spend time on the small beach. Swimming depends on the day’s conditions. Girolata rewards a slow visit with plenty of time allowed for the return journey.

Practical advice

There are no cars and no resort-level services. Businesses may close out of season. For the hike, heat and terrain require good shoes and ample water. Wild camping is prohibited.

Porto harbour is the easiest departure point from the estate. For the walking route, drive along the D81 to Col de la Croix. In both cases, check schedules and weather before leaving Serriera.
